CUTEC Bintulu Site Visit After Event

Our Bintulu Site Visit has ended! Thank you for joining us on this site trip. We hope you've enjoyed the site visit and learned as much about real engineering sites. If you have missed the event, please do not fret, you can join us in our next outstation trip next time. =)

Overview: The 4 hours journey to Bintulu began on the 25th August. Upon arrival, we checked into Park City Everly Hotel. Lunch presumed and later, we proceeded to Asean Bintulu Fertilizer site. We were given a most detailed talk on how the ammonia & urea products come about. Souvenirs were given to participants and our university. There were also refreshments provided. In the evening, after shopping at Park City Mall, we went for a most filling chicken buffet dinner. The following day, we went to Similajau. Despite the drizzling rain, we managed to walk around the area and have our picnic in a sheltered area. Around 11.30am, we were dropped off for lunch or shopping. We visited Bintulu Port Sdn. Bhd. at around 2.00pm, where we were briefed on the history and structure of the organization. A short quiz was given and souvenirs were exchanged. Refreshments were also provided. After that. we were toured around the site in a bus. Shortly after, we departed from Bintulu, back to Miri.

Let's look at what we've done during the trip!

Day 1 : Asean Bintulu Fertilizer

Our hired bus. We had 2 bus drivers chauffeurs, for reasons unknown. Why? I must kill you if I tell you why.

Our hotel! Four people shared a room. Some unlucky ones were forced to share a bed with sleepers who have too many bad sleeping habits...hmmmm...

Swimming pool facility at the hotel! Looks like jelly, want to scoop and eat...Right? Agree ah? I know you hungry mer...

During lunch, we ate a variety of chicken food; salad chicken rice, chicken rice and more chicken rice...Our face also become chicken.

We'd arrived at Asean Bintulu Fertilizer(ABF) conference room! The chairs can auto-flip back like cinema one...Want to bring back to Miri as souvenir but I scare haven't reach Miri, I get a detour to jail instead...

Mr. Presentator is a kind man ar, he gave us a hardcopy of his slides. If you think it is most useful & wish to keep a copy, you may ask from CUTEC to photostate.

Exchanging of souvenirs!

We were given 2 packets of Agrenas (urea fertilizer product) and a mini twin tower for the university. Pens were given to participants!

Following the gift exchange, we were brought to Bintulu Port Authority building on level 11 where we could see a full view of ABF site!

The huge belt conveyor crossing here and there like snakes...haha, where the head ah...kena chop...hahaha

The belt conveyor connecting to ABF site.

The ABF plant site! Smoking hot, dude. Really got smoke la...

Zoooom in! So many drums. All must got different sound when you hit...hahaha

A sneak peek to Day 2 site visit area of Bintulu Port Sdn. Bhd. So colourful~

*gets thrown eggs* If true got this kind of thing, nobody will buy haha, all crap.

The only honest person here is the cameraman...haha

Malaysia version of Meteor Garden?! XD

This pose like my ahma cook vegetable. Accurate angle some more...

A part of Taiwanese boy group 'Lollipop'... XD but made-in-CUTEC brand.

Illegal gambling during Free Time, haha! I die also won't join the game. Why? Disney Princess poker card, you want to be laughed ar? (no kidding man)

After shopping, we went straight for dinner. All the food here; got salad, rice, vegetables, and chicken(again). Self-service ice-creams too!

And all the food goes into this stomach hahaha! Did I mention it's a chicken BUFFET dinner? Eat all you can! Some really cannot...

Attempt to eat back our money's worth.

Day 2 : Bintulu Port Sdn. Bhd.

This scene is enough to wake anyone up. I have heard of long-hair ghost coming out from TV, but never hear one that comes out and then go to toilet one...hahahaha!

Wake up too early? Take a walk in the park by the sea. Just behind the hotel, so convenient.

The sky so gloomy, dunno why the sun shy shy don't come out...

The movie "Turn Left, Turn Right" (chinese: 向左走·向右走) is applicable to this picture haha...

Why emo?

I see. You emo cos you cannot choose between the plastic bag and the lady issit?

Really...got cat. And it's going in the direction of the sea! o_o Apu, no sense of direction this cat...

After a picnic and lunch in the city, we had finally arrived at Bintulu Port Sdn. Bhd. building and went to level 2 for a talk on history, quiz, refreshments and souvenir exchange. The port started its first production on January 1983 and is a private organization. It is different from Bintulu Port Authority, which is a part of the government. This port owns state-of-the-art equipments.

We were toured around the port area in our bus. There were lots of colourful containers.

We passed by the maintenance area.

One of the state-of-the-art equipments!

This equipment functions similarly like the toy pincher in the arcade. You know, you have to aim to catch the teddy bear, but you know it's not going to happen any time soon, because you know the pincher is too weak to hold the teddy bear but you never learn your lesson, and then, you get angry in the end because you've just wasted RM10 just to get nothing out from it...Way to go!

In this case, this pincher is most successful (it has to, lol). The container is being easily lifted off the ground. The arcade version is obviously not engineered properly. Thus, we are there to make a difference hahaha...Though, the business students may think differently -.- They'll think of some ways to fish more money out of your pocket...

One of the few many ships by the port!

Other ships nearby! These looks like smaller battleships hahaha! KABOOM, PEWPEW, BAMBABOOM!!

Wood can be found on the port too!

One long stretch of ships by the port!

Sites can be seen near the port.

We can see Bintulu Port Authority from the Bintulu Port Sdn. Bhd. site!

That's all for now. Happy National Day!

CUTEC

Workshop Basic Skills Training Course 2009 After Event

Thanks to all for participating and turning up for the event! It was a most stimulating event, where everyone was able to lay their hands on equipments we all used to see (or have never seen) but dared not touch. All the seniors were most helpful and hopefully, the juniors were able to gain bits and pieces of knowledge from this basic skills course as well. I hope you have all enjoyed this event!

Overview : Our OC, Ming Jin, started off with a short safety brief and introduction to our machining equipments. Groups were formed, with around 6 participants under the guidance of 2 seniors. They then took turns with the 4 machining equipments available, which are drilling, turning, welding and CNC machining. CNC machining was handled by the lab technician as complex programming was required. After our seniors demonstrated on how to operate the machines, participants were given a chance to try their hands on the equipments. The course was surprisingly over in less than the estimated 2 hours, which gave everyone more time to experiment on the equipments. Some of the equipments not included as a part of the course were also shown to the participants! Here are pictures from the event!

Our Mr. OC briefing it all.

Welding

Welding Equipment. No human has been harmed in the process (despite blood-like stains...)

A very helpful senior & a junior welding...hey, nice glove a...

The inside of the mask is soooo dark!

Turning

Turning Equipment. So complicated...Got pedal like piano hahaha...

Hi......Okay, you can continue your work now.

The equipment can shave the white cyclinder like 'ais kacang' (shaved ice)...

Close up. Shining 'ais kacang' block.

Perfect 'ais kacang'-ness. Also, small frisbee cap (right) & cendol (left) hahaha...

CNC Machining

CNC Machine. It is the leader of all machines, cos got brand 'LEADWELL'...hahahaha...

Checking Mr. Leadwell out.

So tempted to press the red button...

The side view of the CNC machining process. The coolant will be focused on the metal piece. Har, why do it in closed space? The coolant splashes on you, you like ar?

Spiral! The product after waiting for the process to complete.

Some other results from CNC machining. So many shapes! Maybe can make spades, hearts and diamonds too. Hahaha, then we can all play metal poker cards...

Drilling

Drilling Equipment. I don't know why the equipment so tall.

Seniors demonstrating how to use the equipment. The switch button is at bottom right, so feel free to on and off.

Our participants trying out! The metal board can be moved left and right, front and back, so it's quite convenient to drill.

Zoooom! More 'ais kacang'! Hahaha...

Horizontal Band Saw

Horizontal Band Saw Equipment. The purpose of the long metal stick is to trip people down.

I'm sure all the cyclinders in the lab have done nothing wrong to deserve this...May you rest in peace...

That is all for now! You sure did miss out the fun if you didn't participate in this particular event. Next time around then! :D

CUTEC
