CUTEC Workshop Skills Training Course

Well, here comes the 3rd event for this semester which is the workshop skills training course. Notice the workshop in our campus situated at the CE building? There are several machineries there such as milling, turning, welding, CNC machining machines, etc available for the student's use in the workshop. However, considering that none of the courses in the campus prepares the students for machines there, thus our club prepared this training course to allow the students to use the basic equipments in the workshop. The training course will focus mainly on the milling, turning and welding machines in the workshop. Feel free to join us in this event as this is one of the 3 main events that we'll undergo for this semester. We accept registrations via the booth at the cafeteria from 8/4 to 10/4 from 11am until 2pm. If you missed the booth times, you can still register by looking for one of our club's committee members or send your details to us vis our club mail. curtin.cutec@gmail.com .... (^-^)

However, this time we managed to make it happen. The trip will take place during the 2nd free week and we hope that you'll be able to join us in this trip.. (^-^)... Hurry to our booth for registrations this week or look for our committee members for the registration forms. This is a first pay first serve basis, so better hurry. Hehe.. (^-^). General Meeting 2008 (I)

Well, this event took place quite a while before, hopefully it's not too late for the article about it to come out... hehe..

After a long break of holidays, here we are again!!

For your acknowledgement, the first general meeting in 2008 was held on 15th March successfully. First of all, as the organizing chairman of the general meeting, I would like to thank all of the involved members for the participation. I must admit that I was surprised by the number of attendees which had exceeded my expectations!

Basically, this general meeting aimed to recruit new members, to inform members about the upcoming activities and projects and to create interactions among members. Here, I would like to apologize for the flaws. Due to some technical problems, the meeting was delayed for around 15 minutes. Later, this event was kicked off by President, GT’s welcoming speech. He emphasized that members should take part in activities enthusiastically to gain benefits and experience. After that, we were briefed about the financial report, upcoming activities and projects and of course, G&S (Graduate & Student) IEM.

Then, we came to the breathtaking part – election. A great applause should be given to all of the candidates for the courage to come upon and the passionate to contribute. As the positions were limited, only 10 could be chosen. For those who did not make it, do not be disappointed. There are other ways to contribute to the club like by giving a lot of good ideas and joining our activities enthusiastically.

Followed by was the brainstorming section. Every group was given a packet of straws to build a tower without any other assisting material. There were 5 groups: DAP, BN, Juice, Parti Keadilan and Anyname. Hmm.. I never knew that the politics had influenced our peaceful campus life so much. In overall, all the groups had done a great job. Various kinds of towers had been produced. Most importantly, from this small competition, I found that most of the groups managed to pull themselves together and work as a team. Especially when it was time to put coins onto the tower, every member of the group would hold their breath and together GASP when the tower fell. After a fair discernment, BN had won the victory (just coincidence to the reality>.<)!! Anyway congrats! Their tower was really cool as it was alike to the Taipei 101.

Finally, it was the refreshment time! Plates of popiah and karipap were served. Yummy yummy…

In overall, I am glad that we had achieved the main goals of this general meeting, especially the team building and innovation thinking part; the seniors and juniors cooperated together, exchanging their technical knowledge. Lastly, hope you guys had enjoyed in the general meeting!

CUTEC Beach Outing Sem 2 2007 Cont.

First of all, I would like to wish you all a Prosperous and Happy Chinese New Year. Gong Xi Fa Cai! As you all know, a fellowship barbeque was held by CUTEC at Taman Selera a.k.a Tanjung beach on 20th of October 2007. Around 50 participants had successfully attracted to attend. The event was aimed to foster the relationships between the committee members, ordinary members and club advisors. At the same time, our club advisors, Mr. Cheng Chin Fook and Mr. Terence Tan contributed great efforts in promoting interesting projects to all the members. The event was officially started around 3p.m. and the first program was a talk delivered by both of the club advisors. The inspiration talk was mainly about the projects that are going to be initiated on next semester. Those projects including Go-cart project, River Power Generator and Mini Flyer. After the brief project descriptions session, everyone was divided into three groups based on the project that had interested the members. During the session, some movies regarding to the project were showed to the members and they were given the opportunity to ask any question regarding towards the project. When the time reaches 3.30p.m., there was a fun session for all the members. The members were encouraged to split into 5 groups. As all of them are future engineers, they were given an engineering related task, which was to build a sand tower with highest height-to-base ratio among all the groups. By observing the pictures uploaded below, you will notice that they really enjoyed the competition. After the game, barbeque was finally started. CUTEC members have the privilege to enjoy all the food for free. While they were enjoying their food, the committee members and members were mingling around. The whole program ended around 6p.m. In short, this event was conducted smoothly and the outcome was very satisfactory for all the committee members who had put a lot of hard works into the event. In line with the theme of this event, “Scunk Work”, that brings the meanings of a group of people who work together to achieve the same goal, therefore the game was designed in such a way that members were required to collaborate in their teams to build a sand tower.
